Moi-Ghost

kugler- Geneva-2016

Using the Freudian notion of “Unheimlich” of making something strange out of the familiar, I investigate in this Performance Piece our strangeness of being. In distancing one self, one moves further and further away from self-knowledge.

At the center of an installation composed of gauze curtains, I stand cocooned within an a transparent elastic material that symbolizes a protective membrane, as if a second skin. The ambiguity of a double identity is drawn. Here, the issue is our consciousness going forward and having the ability to leave the comfort zone which blind  and condemns us to be, but a ghost of ourselves. This duality of presence is seen in my partner, the artist Valérie Albert, who directs my gesture of distributing pieces of “skin” to the audience leaving me free to encourage the public along their path for a personal truth.
